Why is the year in the corner of my 990 different from my fiscal year-end date?

Answer
The year in the upper right corner of your IRS Form 990 is the year in which your fiscal year began. If your fiscal year ended on June 30, 2011, the year on your 990 would be 2010 because the start date for that year was July 1, 2010. If your organization is following a fiscal year that does not match the calendar year, the starting and ending dates of that fiscal year will appear on Page 1 of your 990, in box A.
